My best friend Samantha and I grew up together. She’s one of the most important people in my life. She didn’t have the easiest life, being the youngest of 6 brothers and 3 sisters. Seeing what she went through really made me see her as a strong person and I look up to her.

I remember growing up in little village with Samantha.

“It was uneasy,” Samantha recalls when we recently sat down to this interview.

She didn’t have many things – her family didn’t have enough money so I would share a lot of my things with her. Whatever was mine was hers.

She didn’t have so much fun growing up with her sibling since she was the youngest.

“It sucked, I was always bossed around,” said Samantha. “I never had a say in anything we did. I was always told what to do and what not to do.”

They definitely treated Samantha differently.

“Very much. Sometimes I felt like I wasn’t their sibling because they would push me to the side a lot,” she said.

Samantha has lost two older siblings that were very close to her and they treated her with respect.

“Yes, my oldest sister and oldest brother they were the only ones who were really nice and protected me  and where there anytime I needed them.”

Samantha’s older sister died from cancer and Samantha’s oldest brother died from alcoholism. It was hard asking her about her older siblings because she’s still grieving. I remember… when my mom would be at work and Samantha’s older sister would pick me and Samantha from school and she would feed me and take of me like I was also her sibling.

“I still have not over come it. It made me weaker because I lost two people that meant the most to me and very close to me,” she said then added, “It made my family closer also.”

The last time I was at Samantha’s house all her brothers and sisters were in the and living room enjoying each others company and in the past it wasn’t much like that it seemed like everyone of her sisters and brothers were in their own world.

When Samantha and I were younger I remember always being there for her were as close as family and we still are just that now her siblings are now acting like her siblings and being there for her when she needs them now that they lost to members of the family.

“You are my best friend and I have known you since preschool,” she said.
